Sound of Summer...

Part MGMT, part Dizzee Rascal, 100 percent summer TUNE!!

Lots of uber cool people and an average looking guy with a super hot girl makes for a nice vid too! I particularly like the interraction between the two at 1.40min.... It's like Example is asking, 'Umm are you laughing at my teeth?'
umm...maybe...

If you say one more clever thing, I'll just repeat it and just act like I said it first...

VETO's 'You say yes, I say yes' is undoubtedly worth your attention! I urge you to get sweaty, jump around and shout 'IF YOU GET OFF, THEN I GET OFF...' into the face of all your friends as loudly as you can...
Also, their video answers the age old question of what happened to the bearded lady when the local freak show closed down...

'IF YOU GET OFF, THEN I GET OFF, IF YOU GET OFF, THEN I GET OFF...'
(you get the idea!)

A bit like sandwich spread...

Diana Vickers' voice has been described as being 'like Marmite' by Simon Cowell... Marmite has been described by someone very close to my heart as 'smelling like dirty penis'... I hope there is no correlation...

This song is a bit of a guilty pleasure...but like Marmite I'm not sure if I could cope with too much of it!
'Jumping into Rivers' from her album 'Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree' is rather lovely though! Here it has been given a video by what looks like the UK's version of the Dixie Chicks....

Rather impressive all round!

Clubtastic....

So after years of making milkshakes and shouting how much she hates us right now, Kelis has taken it to the clubs with her new album 'Fleshtone'. I, for one, am applauding! Her new single '4th of July (Fireworks)' looks set to become one of THE songs of the summer. I can't wait to be listening to this, sipping a Pina Colada and shaking my behind as the sun sets on a magical beach somewhere... Even if this is only happening in my head!

Not entirely sold on the nose ring though... not sure how much one wishes to be compared to a prize bull through one's fashion choices...

For more Kelis Summer Fun also check out this featuring Outkast's Andre 3000...

Child afro = very cool!
'Millionaire' by Kelis feat. Andre 300 = underrated amazingness!!

Blast from the Past...

Summer appears to have arrived....(at least for the next five minutes...) so pack up a hamper, some Bucks Fizz, an enthusiastic dog and some short shorts, to venture out into the sunshine....
Failing that, just put this song on your iPod and stare out the window....

Sometimes life's ok...

Modest Mouse's 'Float On' is ,for me, one of the most multi purpose songs on the soundtrack to my life!
If you are happy, wanna kick somthing, wanna skip down the street, wanna cry into a pillow (well maybe not cry into a pillow....unless you are ready to stop crying into said pillow and ready to accept that life's not all just a big turd...) this song will happily carry you through! A gem of shouty, enthusiastic, melodic, sarcastic music in 3.34mins...

Thankyou Modest Mouse....Thankyou!

Norwegian National Bank...

Thomas Dybdahl and friends are some of Norways coolest exports...after oil and fish! Here they present us with the perfect anti-love song with lyrics such as 'Don't call me up, don't stay in touch, it'll do no good, you just gotta let go' and 'I was uneasy, you called me your soulmate, 6 billion to one I'll never meet her anyhow'. Perfect for post break-up stomping (but possibly only if you were the dumper...dumpees should maybe steer clear of this one...)
Gled Seg!

Blast from the Past...

OK it's official....this song is beautiful! Perfect for those erm...rainy days and mondays.....
Karen Carpenter's voice is like pouring honey into your ears....although decidedly less dangerous to your health!
Seriously though, if you're feeling like no one is understanding you, put this on, walk down the street (preferably in the rain) and imagine you are in some film or maybe TV series....A classy one though....not Eastenders or anything.... maybe, like, your own personal version of 'the Hours' where obviously you will be Meryl Streep not the skinny one with the fake nose.... You'll be surprised how it makes you feel better...
Enjoy!

Florence and the Jingle Bells....

Florence and the machine have to be one of my sounds of 2009/10/far into the future.... Florence has one of the most amazing voices around and crazy red hair too! Here she is jamming in the park, i think the conversation prior to went somthing like this...
Florence: OK so you are the guitarist so you play the guitar right...
Guitarist: Well d'uh
Florence: And I am the singer so I'm gonna sing and shake these bells for rhythm...
Drummer: Ummm... Florence.... as the drummer and general rhythm bringer, do you not think i should do that?
Florence: Ummm...No....you may......play this fence....and don't show your face on screen as you have offended me....OK everyone places....ACTION!
Drummer: Grrrrrrrrr

I do love this song though....

An Ingrid I like...(part 1)

Norwegian singer Ingrid Olava has been on the soundtrack to my life a while now... Her voice is both silky smooth and emotional. Her lyrics are poignant and heartfelt. This song was my first introduction to her. Who hasn't felt like they couldn't face loving someone again? That it would hurt too much...

Her cover of 'Chasing Pavements' is also worth a listen.... (you gotta love the norwegian at the beginning too!!!)

I'm also a huge fan of this video, where she is pulled up on stage at a Damien Rice concert to sing 'Cold Water' (which she obviously isn't that familiar with) and after a wobbly start completely blows it out of the water!! Look how happy Damien's little weasel face is singing with Ingrid in a cave....

If I was their manager I would be putting out an album of duets NOW!

Careful of the herpes.....

The Maccabees show us what the world would be like, if there were such things as 'Bisexual Pubs'....

Amazingly simple and beautiful song...I like a lot!!

New Xtina....

The lady in a bottle is back with her new video for single 'Not myself tonight'...

What's right with it:
Aguilera's voice is amazing,
She has an impressive body, especially seeing as she has had a baby, she is also beautiful!
After some vodkas....listening to this.... I imagine we shall all be believing we can sing and dance like her!

What's maybe not so right with it:
She is trying a little too hard to convince us that, even though she's a mum, she is still a girl kissing, gimp mask wearing slut...
She shamelessly promotes her perfume...(product placement... in a music video...Christina how could you!)
Also the video reminds me a little too much of this...made 15 years ago....

let's face it... 'Human Nature' is better.... EXPRESS YOURSELF, DON'T REPRESS YOURSELF!!!

From Shortbus to this ....

Jay Brannan, probably best known for his role in the film 'Shortbus' (it has real sex in it...no really...gosh!) is also a singer/songwriter of rather nice stripped back, lyric based tunes! 'Drowning' and 'Half Boyfriend' have a space on my soundtrack for more melancholic days.... enjoy!

Skip to 2mins to skip the self promotion... (FYI you can buy his stuff on itunes now!)

The sweeping insensitivity of this....

The first time I heard this I must admit I was a little confused by this electronic, robot love song..... but the more I heard it and listened to the lyrics it soon became one of those songs where as soon as it's over you want to listen to it all over again.....about 30 times! It is both beautiful and bitter....

The video is also cool, with the light reflecting the sound....clever!

The buzz has gone.... but it's still amazing!!

OK so i know that this has been around for a little while but I defy you to not enjoy this!! The song makes me wanna put cigarettes on my eyes, kill people with poison and dance like a maniac...all in a good way!

Also, I am kinda loving the fact that Lady Gaga makes Beyonce look superfluous!! And who knew Frau Gaga had such an amazing body???!! Quite brilliant!

What the shuffle on my iphone brought me today...

Definitely, definitely part of the soundtrack to my life! maybe it could be on yours too ....?

Gosh and Begorrah!

Lisa Hannigan, the female singer from Damien Rice's first albums also has her own songs...and this one in particular, unexpectedly, finds it's way into my head all the time! Quite lovely!

Eyes Wide Shut meets James Brown!

Janelle Monae has a new video! Yay! and it's just as c-razy as one would expect! I am definitely appreciating the moves in this! Can't wait to see people getting on that tightrope all over town! There also people wearing cloaks with mirrors for faces......genius!!

Does anyone else feel like the small girl-dancer's head looks like it's super-imposed onto her body? Seriously...check it out....

For those who have never heard of Janelle check out 'Many moons' ...

looks like this cost MONEY!!! makes me wanna shake my hips and stamp my feet....

Golden Oldies!

It's a blast from the past and if it doesn't get you off your chair I want a written excuse!!!!

p.s. does anyone else kinda want to learn the routine they are doing?

I'm making a lasagne......for one!

Loves it...

Kate Nash goes Pam Ann!

So Kate Nash has released her video for her new single 'Do-Wah-Doo' and I can't help thinking she has been inspired by everyones favourite trolley dolly...

I have a feeling that this song is a grower but for immediate Nash brilliance check out this..... for anyone who ever longed for someone to notice them...

Nice...

Quote: "Roisin I could have sex with your songs"

Roisin Murphy has decided to bestow upon us some new tunes, while she goes and pops out a sprog!!! HURRAH!! 'Orally Fixated' sounds like a dry hump with a disco ball on a smoke filled dance floor and I for one am LOVING IT! Also, any song which contains the line 'You just love to stuff your face' has to be worth a listen!

For other soundtracks to your life see also this.... (although please ignore the very sentimental video and listen to the lyrics!)

Perfect for late night glasses of red wine at home.... Gorgeous!

For late night vodka and dancing around the kitchen in your underwear Ms. Murphy has generously given us 'Primitive'....

THANKYOU ROISIN!

Friendly Fires....Ear friendly tunes....

Just found this stripped down version of album track 'Strobe' by Friendly Fires......

I'm imagining lying in the sun on a yacht to this ....mmmmmm! (I might add this is all speculation as i have never even been on a yacht....maybe it's less blissed out than one imagines...??)

The original isn't half bad either...

TURN IT UP! TURN IT UP LOUD!!!!

That's right everyone...it's time to don your scarecrow outfit and HEAD TO THE CORNFIELD !!! May i just say...Missy Elliot makes me wanna 'DANCE' (said in the style of someone from Texas obviously!) For more evidence see also

'Show me some love, strip off your clothes and take off your socks!!!!'

Nod your head and feel uber cool.....

It's simple, and egotastic.....enjoy! Also the video is kind of a tripped out version of this...

an anthem in it's own right.... everyone sing out those high notes (you know you want to!)

A little digruntled...

Just a little note to Warner Chappell (the company in charge of Ellie Goulding)
'Dear sir or madman,

I am writing to ask you to either put the audio back onto the videos of 'Not following you' by Ellie Goulding on Youtube, or to put the song onto her album as it is amazing. You are denying people valuable additions to their lives!
Yours sincerely,

Music to live by!'

you shall all have to make do with 'Starry Eyed' and it's psychedelic tumbling dancers....

I feel it all...even the naughty bits....

The sun is starting to shine after a long winter at last... imagine if you will you are running through a field... there are daisies...and maybe some cider... I do believe this song would be the perfect accompaniament... also who isn't a little envious of Fiest's lovely firework drums????
